Project Summary
Mills & Wright was part of the multidisciplinary project team for this state-of-the-art assisted and independent living facility. The design provides a warm, welcoming feeling more akin to a home than an institution. The parklike setting and variety of comfortable outdoor spaces convey a message of care, health, and well-being for residents, staff and visitors and capitalize on existing site features such as mature stands of vegetation, comfortable southern exposure, and views of the scenic Waterford Valley. Landscape amenities provide accessible and inclusive opportunities for physical and social interaction, and are designed to appeal to a variety of ages, abilities, and levels of care. This includes an entry garden, woodland trail, a pond and fountain, as well as a therapeutic strolling garden. The lush gardens are designed to reflect a traditional Newfoundland garden, complete with nostalgic plant and landscape materials, to provide visual interest and act as a memory trigger for residents, invoking positive memories of their former homes.
Mills & Wright completed the concept design, detailed working drawings and specifications, and full construction administration services.
