Project Summary
The Town of Conception Bay South has transformed a 1.3-hectare property along the scenic shoreline of Long Pond into a signature, year-round community park. Phase 1 construction consisted of a parking area, pedestrian and service vehicle access, storm water infrastructure, underground services, and the installation of an accessible play space. Phase 2, led by Mills & Wright and its multidisciplinary team, featured the highlight of the park: a combination splash pad and refrigerated skating surface; the first of its kind in Newfoundland & Labrador. The design also features a contemporary park building which provides washrooms, change rooms, equipment, and storage, as well as a small performance area overlooking Long Pond which supports impromptu performances and other community events. The park aims to be as inclusive as possible by providing accessible surfaces and pedestrian-scale LED lighting throughout.
